TMI Homecoming 2025
THANK YOU
A heartfelt thank you to all the alumni and guests who joined us for Homecoming at TMI! What an incredible way to kick off the year. It was truly wonderful to see so many of you back on campus, reconnecting with classmates and reliving cherished memories.
The Homecoming festivities began on Thursday, October 16 with the Pass in Review where the TMI Corps of Cadets impressed the crowd with their discipline, precision, and readiness. This year’s Reviewing Officer was Carson Moore ’23, former Battalion Commander of the Corps. A survivor of the devastating Kerrville floods on July 4, Carson’s return in this honored role was both powerful and inspiring.

Following the ceremony, alumni gathered for a special reception and tour of the new Elliott-Stabler Leadership Center, where they had the opportunity to meet Chief Casey Reed, Commandant of Cadets, and learn more about the future of leadership development at TMI.

Dr. Robert Borrego ’75

On Friday, October 17, TMI hosted its annual Alumni BBQ and Reunion on campus before the football game. There were 100 alumni and their guests on campus who enjoyed dinner, tours of the new Harthall Hall and Coates Science building, the new Alumni Family Fun Zone, and the company of alumni from all decades.

This year’s Family Fun Zone was a total hit! Alumni kids lit up the day with colorful face paint, balloon creations of every shape and size, and endless laughter as they bounced their hearts out in the inflatable house.

At the football game, TMI welcomed home Donald Villarreal ’75, Richard Aguilar ’75, Rick Heydenreich ’75 and Mike Oates ’75 to perform the honorary coin toss in celebration of their 50th anniversary of graduating from TMI.

Liz Fox (Spencer), TMI alumna from the Class of 2012 crowned this year’s Homecoming King and Queen with the help of Fr. Scott Brown, TMI President/Head of School.

On October 7, 2025, TMI Episcopal held its 6th Annual Entrepreneur & Innovation Award Luncheon at the Mays Family Center at The Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas. The event honored TMI alumnus and grandparent Ernesto Ancira Jr., drawing a crowd of 350 guests. Attendees from across the TMI community, including alumni, families, and business leaders, gathered to celebrate Mr. Ancira’s remarkable accomplishments and to recognize the enduring legacy of innovation and entrepreneurship at TMI. Together, our community raised $104,358 for TMI. All proceeds from the event will benefit our 2025-2026 annual giving campaign that supports academics and student activities, professional development, technology, safety & security, campus beautification, classroom improvements, and more. Thank you to all of our sponsors, underwriters, supporters, and volunteers for your incredible generosity.
Guests were warmly welcomed upon arrival by student ambassadors Clint Parker ’31, Lila Griffin ’31, and Adair Griffin ’28, along with members of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets. As attendees entered the stunning venue, they were met with elegant custom floral centerpieces thoughtfully designed by Southern Blooms.
Showcasing TMI’s dedication to innovation, design thinking, and interdisciplinary learning, a variety of interactive exhibits were presented by both students and faculty. These displays highlighted the breadth and depth of several academic programs, including:
- Fine Arts – Maria Alvarez Maumejean ’26, Brice Allison ’26, and Julia Adonis Hammock ’26
- Humanities – Logan Ammons ’28 and Julia Parker ’28
- Business & Entrepreneurship – Curtis Fitzgerald III ’26, Jean Hamminga ’26, Alexa Hernandez ’26, and Jacob Webb ’26
- Innovation, Design Thinking, and Robotics – Dylan Cunningham ’26, Jimmy Han ’27, Gracie Martinez ’27, Aidan McDaniel ’26, Carolina Sotomayor ’26, and Aiden Zhang ’26

These exhibits offered guests an inside look at the dynamic, student-driven learning that defines the academic experience at TMI.
Adding to the sense of tradition, members of the TMI Color Guard, Emory Beuerlein ’27, Henry Guehl ’27, Piper Haynes ’27, Achint Raina ’27, and Frankie Santos ’27, were also present, representing the Corps of Cadets with distinction.
Guests enjoyed engaging directly with students, exploring their creative work, and learning more about the innovative projects on display.
This year, TMI juniors Audrey Barowsky and Tharun Cheruku took the stage as emcees, warmly welcoming guests to the event. The luncheon began with the Presentation of Colors by the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets. The opening continued with a moving performance of the National Anthem by TMI senior Alayna Hilliard, followed by an invocation led by The Rt. Rev. Dr. David G. Read, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.
Event Co-Chairs Emily Becher, TMI mom to Clint Parker ‘31 and Julia Parker ’28, and Paige Griffin, TMI mom to Lila Griffin ‘31 and Adair Griffin ‘28, then took the stage, expressing how honored they were to be part of this meaningful event. Speaking as proud TMI parents, they reflected on the unique environment TMI provides where students are not only challenged academically, but also deeply known and supported. They shared their gratitude for the school’s passionate educators, the leadership of TMI’s President, and the generosity of those who make this community possible.
While guests enjoyed a beautifully prepared lunch by Absolutely Delicious, a local catering company owned by a TMI family, The Rev. Scott J. Brown, TMI President and Head of School, spoke about the lasting impact of honoree Ernesto Ancira Jr. and the values his family brings to the TMI community. He reflected on the school’s record-breaking enrollment, transformative campus renovations, and the deeper spiritual renewal captured in this year’s theme, “All Things Made New.” Fr. Scott reminded guests that while buildings may change, it is the heart and spirit of the people at TMI that truly define its mission. He closed by honoring the school’s legacy of courage, service, and innovation, and its bright future ahead.

This year, TMI launched an exciting new initiative, the TMI Wish Board Project. This is a creative and impactful way to support The TMI Fund while directly fueling student innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Each item on the TMI Wish Board represents a real need and a tangible opportunity to enhance the student experience, especially in the areas of innovation and the arts. With every gift, guests had the chance to make an immediate difference, as all items funded will be purchased and put to use this school year. The Wish Board invited the community to help turn student ideas into action one wish at a time.
Moments later, emcees Audrey and Tharun returned to the stage to introduce this year’s Entrepreneur & Innovation Award and its distinguished honoree, Ernesto Ancira Jr. They shared that this prestigious award is presented annually to a member of the TMI community who exemplifies the school’s core values, Wisdom, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Reverence, alongside notable success in entrepreneurship and innovation as well as a meaningful impact on the broader community. The students spoke about Mr. Ancira’s lifelong achievements, both personally and professionally, highlighting the legacy he continues to build.

Another new addition to this year’s program was a special video tribute featuring reflections from family and friends of Mr. Ernesto Ancira Jr. The video offered a meaningful glimpse into his life, celebrating not only his achievements in business but also his lasting impact on the San Antonio community. Through the voices of those who know him best, the tribute honored Mr. Ancira’s leadership, generosity, and the legacy he continues to build.
After the many tributes to Mr. Ancira’s legacy of hard work, innovation, and leadership, it was time for him to take the stage and accept the 2025 TMI Entrepreneur & Innovation Award.
In his remarks, Mr. Ancira expressed deep gratitude and humility, noting how meaningful it was to receive this recognition from TMI, a school that helped shape the foundation of his character through its unique blend of academics and military training. He reflected on the core values instilled in him at TMI: integrity, discipline, teamwork, and excellence, which have guided his journey in business and in life.
Mr. Ancira emphasized that his success was never his alone, but shared with the nearly 1,000 team members who stood by him over the past five decades. He honored their dedication, calling them “partners, problem-solvers, and dream-builders” who were instrumental in building the legacy they share today.
He also offered a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Robin, whose steadfast support and love have been, in his words, “the cornerstone of everything we’ve built,” and acknowledged the strength and grace of his children and colleagues.
Closing his speech, Mr. Ancira reminded the audience that true success is not solitary – it is shared, nurtured, and passed on.
On behalf of the students, faculty, staff, and TMI Board of Governors, thank you so much to all of the many sponsors and attendees who supported the award luncheon. Because of your generosity, we are able to raise much-needed funds through our Annual Giving campaign for students, teachers, programs, faculty development, technology, and much more. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we funded $18,185 worth of projects for the Wish Board Project.

Celebrate the holidays with an exclusive TMI ornament honoring our rich history and beloved campus landmarks.
The 2025 ornament continues our cherished tradition of commemorating TMI’s most iconic sites. This year’s design pays tribute to Old Main, a timeless symbol of our school’s enduring legacy. Each year, TMI will release a limited-edition ornament featuring a different campus landmark, inviting you to build a collection that tells the story of TMI’s history and the special places that have shaped generations of Panthers.
Last year’s ornament honored one of the original buildings from the West Texas Military Academy campus. Future designs will showcase treasured landmarks such as Alkek Campus, Ayres Hall, All Saints Chapel, Walker Innovation Center, Harthan Hall, and the Coates Science Building.
In celebration of TMI’s 132nd anniversary, anyone who makes a gift of $132 or more to The TMI Fund will receive the 2025 commemorative ornament as a token of our appreciation (while supplies last).
Don’t miss your chance to take home a piece of TMI history and keep the Panther spirit shining bright this holiday season!
