TMI Alumna, Tyler (Brown) Bassett ’10 welcomed a son with husband Joshua Arocha Bassett. Cyrus Moon Bassett, born February 3, 2026, TMI class of 2044.
Cyrus is a true TMI legacy as he is also related to TMI alumni: uncles – Ernest Brown V ’12, Conor Brown ’13; grandfathers – Ernest Brown IV’ 80, Darryl Jasso ’80; great uncles – Larry Lentz ’62, Giddings “Skipper” Brown ’67; great great grandfather – Ernest Brown Jr. ’20 and great great great grandfather – Ernest Brown Sr., Class of 1898.

2026 TMI Alumni Day and Hall of Fame Ceremony
New Date Announced
We are excited to share an update regarding this year’s Alumni Day. Alumni Day will now take place on Friday, October 30, 2026 to coinciding with Homecoming. We’re excited to bring these celebrations together and look forward to welcoming you back to campus.
Additional details about the day’s schedule and events will be shared soon.
In the meantime, TMI is still accepting nominations for the TMI Hall of Fame and for the Outstanding Young Alumni Award. If you know an alum who has made a lasting impact and deserves recognition, we encourage you to submit a nomination.

All members of the TMI community are invited to join us to honor our senior cadets at the annual Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets Military Ball on February 21, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa. The Military Ball is a formal event that showcases the Corps of Cadets and honors the senior cadets for their dedication to the program.
The formal portion of the event introduces all of the senior cadets and their dates, and the presentation of the “Senior Sabers” is a moving tribute where all of the graduating Cadets receive their own saber for their commitment to the program. Whether you’ve got a sixth-grade Cadet or senior Cadet (or a non-Corps student), this memorable evening is one for the entire community.

TMI Alumnus Connie McCombs McNab ’74 Supports Girls & Women in Sports
National Girls & Women in Sports Day was especially meaningful at TMI.
We were honored to welcome Connie McCombs McNab ’74 back to campus to celebrate her legacy and the Fund for Female Excellence. As one of TMI’s first female graduates, Connie represents an important milestone in the school’s history and in the early years of TMI as a coeducational institution. Through her generosity, the Fund for Female Excellence continues to create opportunities and provide support for our female students — thus far establishing a new scholarship, providing new athletic uniforms, and supporting enhancements connected to upcoming capital projects.
Female student-athletes and coaches gathered to express their gratitude and recognize the impact of her commitment to women at TMI. In recent years, the school has continued to expand and strengthen female athletics — including the addition of girls lacrosse — opening more opportunities for young women to compete, lead, and thrive.
Paulina Johnson ’00 Serves as Pass in Review Officer
On Monday, February 2, 2026 TMI alumna Paulina Johnson (Alvarez) ’00 returned to campus to serve as the 2026 Leadership Recognition Pass in Review Reviewing Officer.
Paulina Johnson is a TMI Episcopal Class of 2000 distinguished graduate, Army Veteran, proud Texan, and committed leader in service, education, and community. At TMI, she served as the Battalion S-1 Personnel Officer and as an Honor Council Officer. She was the first female graduate of this institution to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. She graduated from West Point in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Geospatial Information Science and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Paulina then completed the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course and Aviation Officer Basic Course at Fort Rucker, Alabama. She continued her advanced aircraft training and qualified as an AH-64D Longbow Apache Helicopter pilot.
First assigned to 1st Battalion Attack, 2nd Aviation Regiment, she served as an attack reconnaissance platoon leader and battalion adjutant at Camp Eagle, South Korea. She then transitioned to Fort Rucker, Alabama, where she completed the Aviation Captain’s Career Course, Aviation Leaders Course and Aviation Manager’s Course in 2009.
Paulina was then assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where she served as the Assistant Operations Officer for 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. Paulina deployed with Task Force Wolfpack to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While in Afghanistan, she initially served as a Battle Captain and took command of Delta Company, 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, at Forward Operating Base Tarin Kowt. Paulina was in charge of more than 160 personnel and more than 430 million dollars worth of aviation equipment. Upon her return, she continued to serve as an Apache Longbow maintenance company commander at Fort Bragg, North Carolina until the end of 2011. During her aviation career, Paulina flew more than 700 hours to include 180 combat hours.
In 2012, Paulina took a second command as the commander of HHC, 1st Brigade Recruiting Command at Fort Meade, Maryland. While there, she was part of recruiting the best young men and women to be part of the United States Army. She was ultimately selected to the rank of Major but instead chose to pursue a rewarding career as a mother of two amazing children and continued her service as a civilian and as an Army spouse.
Her military awards include Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Metal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal. Paulina’s skill badges include the Combat Action Badge, Basic Aviator Badge, and Parachutist Badge.
Outside of her Army service, Paulina is active in volunteering with Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Saint George Episcopal School, Bexar County Medical Alliance, Bexar County Republican Woman, Adopt a Needy Family, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of Darkness Walks, Wreaths Across America, as well as other community events.
She currently lives in San Antonio with her husband, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Bryan Johnson, and her two children, Edward and Olivia Johnson.
Alumni Return to TMI to Play Lacrosse
On January 8, 2026 TMI Alumni returned to campus to kick off the new year with a Lacrosse game.
